It’s in people, places, stories and quotes. There are so many things around us that inspire us to reach for the stars and follow our dreams.
Perhaps it’s a desire to belong to something, to leave a legacy or to make a difference – in your life, in your community, in your world. But how do you get clear about what inspires you, so you can follow your dreams?
Here are three ways to identify what inspires you so you can go forth and kick butt!
How do you want to feel?
Take some time to think about how you want to feel in life. What feelings are important and what do you want to bring more of into your life each day?
Maybe you want more joy, play, creativity, love, security, adventure, freedom or fun. Perhaps you crave community, collaboration, abundance, vibrancy or ease.
Whatever it is you want to feel more often in your life, get clear and write it down.
Know too that this isn’t about sunshine and rainbows 24/7 – no one will ever feel happy, excited, energised and prosperous all the time. This is about identifying what matters most to you and giving yourself permission to tap into the feelings YOU want to feel more often.
What makes you feel that way?
What do you already have or do in your life that makes you feel the way you want to feel? It could be a person, place, action or thing. Maybe walks with your dog brings you happiness, time with friends helps you feel connected, travel brings adventure into your life or dancing helps you feel creative and free.
Whatever it means to you is just right. This isn’t about fitting the mould, doing what’s expected or living a life filled with should, could and would, this is about you, identifying what matters to you, so you can bring more of the good stuff into your life on a daily basis.
What lights you up?
What do you love to do and what are you passionate about? What is it you can’t stop reading about, learning about, talking about or thinking about? What do you want to share with others? What lights you up and makes you feel alive?
There’s gold in the answers to these questions, because it’s where you’ll find your sweet spot (also known as that passion filled place where your thoughts, ideas, desires and dreams collide). It’s where you feel fuelled by a need to take action, to create something, to do, be, have or achieve something that matters to you. It’s where you’ll find your ‘thing’; that thing you’re good at, that you’re called to share, that will make a difference – to you and to others. It’s that amazing place where you’re shifting, shaping and changing yourself and the world around you, simply by being you.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what your dream is.
Whether you dream big or small. What matters is that it’s yours and that it makes you feel alive, excited and inspired. Because by being true to yourself and what you REALLY want, by following your dreams, you inspire others to do the same, and that’s pure magic.
